Young Lawyers Section

A section is comprised of lawyers who practice in similar legal specialties. Membership and involvement in the SBA Bar Sections enables you to gain maximum career potential, express ideas, and strengthen the local legal profession.

The Young Lawyers Section of the Shreveport Bar Association is open to attorneys age 40 and under or those who have been practicing law for five years or less.  Notices of events are posted in the Shreveport Bar Association’s publication, The Bar Review, as well as emailed to all YLS members.  If you are interested in receiving email updates & notices of events, please email

Some of our annual events & projects include:

Socials With A Purpose – Each month, The Young Lawyer’s Section provides an opportunity for members to network at various local restaurants and bars.  In conjunction with each social, the Young Lawyer’s Section selects a charity or organization to sponsor.  Donations are taken up based upon the needs of each organization.

Teen Court – Teen Court is a diversion program for first time juvenile offenders sponsored by Volunteers for Youth Justice. Members of the Young Lawyer’s Section volunteer to act as judges and attorney coaches to assist students participating in Teen Court.  Members also help to judge an annual Law Week essay contest that is open to all high school students.

Mock Trial Competition – The Young Lawyers’ Section works with the State Bar and other associations within our region to coordinate a yearly regional high school mock trial competition. All high schools in the North Louisiana region are invited to participate. The winners advance to the state competition and then a national competition. Local judges and attorney members of the Bar volunteer each year to act as performance judges who score and critique the teams’ performances.

Seminar for New Attorneys – The Young Lawyer’s coordinate an annual seminar for newly admitted attorneys, which includes presentations by local Judges, attorneys, and other court personnel to provide practical advice on practicing law. The seminar is followed by a luncheon, formal introduction to the Court, and a party that evening.  It is held in conjunction with the Shreveport Bar Association’s Annual Memorial & Recognition Ceremony.
